Our Legacy

A Century of Transformation

From a humble silk weaving institute in 1927 to a premier engineering college — our journey spans nearly a century of relentless pursuit of excellence.

Established on 19th July 1927 as the Government Silk Weaving and Dyeing Institute in the central jail premises at Berhampore, we began with a mission to train local artisans in silk production and weaving. Over the decades, we evolved through multiple transformations:

1927

1932-33

Shifted to Present Campus

Moved to 4 Barrack Square (East), the current location that would become home to generations of engineers.

1940

Bengal Technological Institute

Upgraded with 3-year diploma in Textile Technology and 2-year artisan course. A new era of technical education began.

1958

College of Textile Technology
